A Bear in the house
Theres a Bear in My HOUSE!
In the summer of 2023, we were building our cabin and living in our fifth wheel. It was a toy-hauler with an open patio deck on the back and screen doors.
One June night, sound asleep I felt the RV rock, and move. I wake up Doug and he says, “why are you moving the bed?” I said, “I’m NOT, something is in the house!”
Earlier in the day I bought a whole box of donuts for the contractors the next morning and stored them in the back room off the patio. Those sweet smells were too much; Yogi was IN THE HOUSE.
Doug grabbed his gun and boldly walked in the room and yelled at the bear who scampered off, leaving destruction in his wake.
I removed the donuts, (they survived but the back doors did not) and had a feeling he was coming back, the sugar smell still there and now the doors are not! Doug calmly went back to bed; I sat on the couch waiting.
An hour later I hear commotion in the hen house. Oh, he was back alright, he was done with sugar and now wanted chicken!
We scared him away again, and he didn’t return that night.
This forest is his home, and we moved into it. He was here first; we respect and love that. This was our rookie mistake; we always have food secured these days.
--And you know what? We all get “bears” in our house. That unwanted thing that shows up-job loss, death, illness, bad relationships. One choice is to “go back to bed,” as if there is no threat. Nothing is happening here!
Another choice is to sit on the couch, wait and pray. Pray for the threat to pass and peace to return.
Both serve a purpose; both are just different ways of coping. Pick yours when a Bear walks in the house-either way, peace can and will be restored.
